ALL-TIME SERIES
El Paso and Pittsburgh met for the first-time last season, with Locomotive falling 1-0 away from home. Now, the Riverhounds are making their first-ever trip to Southwest University Park and Locomotive will look to use homefield advantage to run on its momentum and pick up another positive result.
EL PASO LOCOMOTIVE FC (7TH WESTERN CONFERENCE, 2-3-1, 7 PTS)
Locomotive returns for Week 7 with much-needed rest and high motivation to extend its 3-game unbeaten streak against a Riverhounds side who got back in the winning column this past weekend, ending a 3-game winless run.
El Paso forward Luis ‘‘Lucho’’ Solignac enters this match with three goals in the last two contests and is one goal away from becoming the club’s all-time leader in goals scored across all competitions. He currently sits equal at 29 goals with teammate and forward Aaron Gomez.
El Paso has not yet scored a goal against Pittsburgh in competition, so there is an opportunity this weekend for a Locomotive player to go down as the first player to do so against the Riverhounds.
PITTSBURGH RIVERHOUNDS SC (4TH EASTERN CONFERENCE, 2-1-3, 9 PTS)
The Riverhounds picked up their first win in four games last Saturday against Rio Grande Valley FC, courtesy of a pair of second-half goals from Albert Dikwa and Kenardo Forbes.
The Pittsburgh defense has been one of the strongest to begin the 2023 season, so far only facing 12 shots on target and conceding four goals. However, they are prone to committing fouls, currently third in the league with 94. Additionally, they are one of two teams in 2023 to have accumulated two red cards already.
Historically, Pittsburgh is currently the third-winningest team in USL Championship history in away wins (58).
LO QUE ESTAN DICIENDO
Head Coach and Technical Director Brian Clarhaut on what Locomotive needs to do defensively to stop the Riverhounds.
“They can score goals out of nothing, so we got to neutralize space and be very good defensively in our box. If we can take care of that, I fancy our chances at home.”
Forward Luis “Lucho” Solignac on what scoring a goal to become the club’s all-time leading scorer means to him.
“Of course, it’s important for me. I’ve been with the club for three years and it will be a great achievement for me, but like I always say, I don’t want to score goals and just be happy that I’m the top goal scorer. I want to score goals to win; that’s the main goal.”
UP NEXT: Saturday, April 29 at San Diego Loyal SC. Kickoff 8 p.m. MT at Torero Stadium. Locomotive make their way to SoCal as they seek out their first ever win against San Diego Loyal SC. El Paso Head Coach and Technical Director Brian Clarhaut is set to be reunited with Loyal’s Ronaldo Damus and Joe Corona, players under his leadership in Sweden at GIF Sundsvall.
ON THE HORIZON: Friday, May 5 at Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC. Kickoff 7 p.m. MT at Weidner Field. Locomotive have never lost a match at Weidner Field and will look to get one back on the Switchbacks after suffering a heart-breaking defeat at home earlier this season.
