EL PASO, Texas – El Paso Locomotive FC goalkeeper Benny Diaz has been nominated for the USL Championship Fans’ Choice Save of the Week award for Week 5. Fans can vote for Diaz on USL Championship’s website here, as well as on Twitter, Instagram Stories and the USL App. The poll will close at 10 a.m. MT on Friday, April 14.
Diaz put on a big performance in front of the Locomotive faithful last Saturday against Orange County SC, making two big saves to help Los Locos secure a 1-0 win and its first three points at home this season. His second save was one that sparked cheers and chants around Southwest University Park, denying a thundering volley taken by OCSC’s Bryce Jamison just outside the Locomotive six-yard box.
Additionally, Diaz ensured Locomotive did not concede in the match and recorded his second clean sheet in 2023. Diaz was recognized for his performance on Saturday and earned a spot in the USL Championship Team of the Week – Week 5. Read more here.
Locomotive now goes into its break with a 3-game undefeated streak and will welcome Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC at Southwest University Park for the first time ever on Saturday, April 22 @ 7:30 p.m. MT. Tickets can be purchased here.
