El Paso Locomotive FC travels for its first away game of the 2021 USL Championship season, venturing into unfamiliar territory against Sporting Kansas City II on Sunday, May 30. The match will be the first for Locomotive against an Eastern Conference opponent. Kickoff from Children’s Mercy Victory Field is set for 3:00 p.m. MT and will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
Locomotive has had a strong start to its third campaign in the USL Championship, having played two games so far at its home of Southwest University Park. Starting with a dramatic second-half stoppage-time goal against New Mexico United by Leandro Carrijo to salvage a point on a 1-1 draw, Locomotive went on to halt the Rio Grande Valley FC win streak with a club-record 18-second goal by Luis Solignac. With the two wins at home, Locomotive continues its strong run at home, undefeated in the last 11 games (9-0-2) at Southwest University Park.
With four points on the board in the Mountain Division, Locomotive now takes its first-ever trip to the Eastern Conference to take on Sporting Kansas City II, who has had a less than ideal start after five games. After five games, Sporting has earned only two points with a record of 0-3-2, most recently falling 2-0 to Indy Eleven.
