ALL-TIME SERIES
In five regular season meetings, El Paso lead the series with three wins and two losses. The record skews in favor of Las Vegas at Southwest University Park, however, where Locomotive have won only once in three home matches.
Locomotive came out on top the last time these two met last season, a 1-0 win at Las Vegas.
EL PASO LOCOMOTIVE FC (2ND WESTERN CONFERENCE, 8-3-2, 26 PTS)
With its undefeated streak now at double digits, El Paso return home ready to continue its high form in front of the Locomotive faithful, where El Paso have gone unbeaten in its last three with clean sheets in each and a +4-goal differential.
A win or draw against Las Vegas would see Locomotive equalize a club record for longest undefeated streak in the regular season, with the current record at 11 games, set in the final stretch of the 2020 season.
El Paso will look to set the tone and open the goalscoring, as El Paso has been a perfect 7-0-0 this season when scoring the first goal. More impressive, Locomotive is undefeated in their last 20 matches when scoring first, dating back to April 9, 2022, in a 5-0 win against Monterey Bay FC.
LAS VEGAS LIGHTS FC (12TH WESTERN CONFERENCE, 1-5-6, 9 PTS)
In complete opposite form, Las Vegas’ season has been largely underwhelming. The Lights are currently bottom of the Western Conference and boast the worst record in the league so far with just 9 points and a single win in its first 12 matches.
Additionally, Las Vegas has only scored 12 goals so far, joint-second in the league for least goals scored.
Despite this, Las Vegas should not be a team that Locomotive underestimate. They’ll come to El Paso looking to compete with hopes of pulling off the upset.
LO QUE ESTAN DICIENDO
Head Coach and Technical Director Brian Clarhaut on what the team needs to bring to this match.
We got to keep doing what we’re doing, show the resilience that we’ve done. We’re going to have to put in another shift and replicate the type of energy and battle against San Antonio that we showed over the weekend. It’s going to have to be that type of intensity in order to be successful and to get the three points against [Las Vegas].
Defender Erik McCue on Las Vegas Lights FC and how Locomotive will work to avoid an upset.
We give respect to every team in this league; every team in this league does deserve respect. We know what their strengths are and what ours are. We just need to focus on putting on the best performance we can at home and making sure to really emphasize what we’ve been talking about in the locker room as well as on the pitch and try to put on a convincing performance.
Forward Aaron Gomez on scoring his first goal and how that helps his confidence moving forward.
[I’m] very happy, thankful to God. It was a difficult goal to score because I wasn’t scoring and to score in that manner and unexpectedly so, it helps me to keep on working and sustain the coach’s trust in me up top. There’s still a lot of games left, so I hope to keep adding on.
