ALL-TIME SERIES
Across two meetings, El Paso has yet to win a match against the Rowdies. The series stands 1-0-1 in Tampa Bay’s favor. The draw came in the last meeting between both sides, a 1-1 contest played at Southwest University Park in 2023.
EL PASO LOCOMOTIVE FC
Al Lang Stadium does not hold fond memories for El Paso. Their first (and last) visit there saw El Paso fall 3-1 to the Rowdies on the final day of the 2022 regular season, officially eliminating Los Locos from postseason contention for the first time in club history. This time, El Paso arrive looking to pick up its first win of the 2024 season to snap a seven game winless streak across all competitions.
Two people El Paso will look towards to accomplish that are forwards Amando Moreno and Justin Dhillon, who have contributed to goals in Locomotive’s last two league matches. Their efforts at the moment sees Moreno sitting amongst the league’s top scorers (joint-7th) with three goals and Dhillon joint-4th in assists (2) as well as bagging a goal of his own from the spot. The hope is that the partnership the two are developing up top, along with the addition of a now-fit Joaquin Rivas, can show up once again in front of a difficult Rowdies backline.
TAMPA BAY ROWDIES
Despite a somewhat slow start to the season, Tampa Bay absolutely dominated their in-state rival Miami FC 5-2 last weekend in a performance that saw its defense hold out as strong as ever while finally getting its offense to click up top. Under the charge of new Head Coach Robbie Nielson, the team is stacked with all-star talents that finally got another win under their belt and the Rowdies will want to build off that momentum to begin their climb up the standings in the Eastern Conference.
With the defensive issues Locomotive has had to start the year, they’ll need to be really wary of Tampa Bay’s attacking force of Manuel Arteaga, Blake Bodily, Cal Jennings and Joshua Perez, who have combined for 13 goal contributions so far.
