ALL-TIME SERIES
Both sides have met only once, back in the 2021 season. El Paso, then led by Mark Lowry, came out on top 2-0 in that match, which was also played at Southwest University Park.
EL PASO LOCOMOTIVE FC (8TH WESTERN CONFERENCE, 9-9-5, 32 PTS)
After a tough three-game road trip, Locomotive is finally back at Southwest University Park for its only home match in August. For defender Marc Navarro, fan support this weekend will be more crucial than ever before as the team hopes to turn around its current run of form in the final matches of the 2023 campaign.
“I understand the fans are frustrated like us,” Navarro said. “In this moment…, we need the fans. We want to do our best, and we want to finally find the way to take the three points and enjoy a [win].”
Fans should also be on the lookout for a historic night for club captain, Yuma. If he makes an appearance against Indy, the beloved defender will become the second player in Locomotive history to make 100 appearances in the USL Championship regular season.
INDY ELEVEN (6TH EASTERN CONFERENCE, 8-9-7, 31 PTS)
Locomotive fans will undoubtedly recognize a few faces from the visiting team. Led by Mark Lowry, who was El Paso’s head coach in the club’s first three seasons, Indy has four former Locos on their current roster: Macauley King (2020-21), Mechack Jérôme (2019-21), Bryam Rebellon (2019-21) and Sebastian Velasquez (2019-22).
Locomotive will need to keep a watchful eye on the attacking duo of Aodhan Quinn and Solomon Asante, who have come off a historic week in the USL Championship. Asante became the first player to record three assists in a single game on three separate occasions and both became the first players in league history to record 50 goals and 50 assists in the regular season.
