EL PASO, Texas – In a recent interview on ESPN’s Futbol Americas, former El Paso Locomotive FC standout Diego Luna spoke about the impact the club made in propelling his career to new heights.
“It was a dream start to a professional career,” said Luna, who joined Los Locos in 2021 as a 17-year-old and is now one of the top players representing the United States at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Argentina, where he scored once and assisted another in a 3-0 win against Fiji.
His first professional season in El Paso saw him record nine goals and five assists, earning him a spot on the 2021 USL Championship All-League Second Team and a nomination for the 2021 USL Championship Young Player of the Year.
In ten matches in 2022, he added four goals and two assists to his Locomotive resume before making a midsummer move to Major League Soccer’s Real Salt Lake.
“Everyone there all gave me the confidence, supported me on and off the field,” Luna said. “I don’t think without El Paso and without everyone that’s helped me there, I would be where I’m at today.”
