EL PASO, Texas – El Paso Locomotive FC (West-1, 7-3-1, 22 points) have set a new club record for most consecutive wins in the USL Championship following a 2-1 comeback win at Birmingham Legion FC on Saturday night.
“Well credit to our team, you saw the fight this team can possess and they took care of business,” Head Coach and Technical Director Brian Clarhaut said. “[The team] stuck to the game plan, took care of big plays in the box. It wasn’t an easy game. [Birmingham] is a good team with individuals at this level that could hurt you, but these guys took care of business. Three points on the road, massive victory.”
The match was the first time both sides met in competition and with the win, El Paso continues its hot streak in league play, winning six straight contests and going undefeated in eight to jump to the top of the Western Conference standings.
Birmingham would open the scoring in the 17’ but forward Luis “Lucho” Solignac would provide an immediate response for Locomotive two minutes later, capitalizing on a Birmingham deflection in the box to bring his season goal tally to six.
Midfielder Liam Rose would double Locomotive’s lead in the 58’. Intercepting a Birmingham clearance, Rose shot an incredible ball from outside the box, which rocketed past outstretched Legion goalkeeper Matt VanOekel. The goal, Rose’s first for Locomotive, would prove to be the game-winner.
