El Paso Locomotive FC plays its final home game of the 2020 USL Championship regular season, hosting New Mexico United in a fight for supremacy of Group C.
Following the narrow 1-0 victory over Real Monarchs last Saturday, Locomotive extended its undefeated streak to eight with a club-record five-game win streak. Former FC Juarez captain Eder Borelli opened his Locos scoring account with a headed goal in first-half stoppage to provide Locomotive the full three points. The clean sheet victory put the Sun City at the top of Group C, four points over its weekend opponent, New Mexico United.
The fight for the top of Group C comes to a head when New Mexico United visits Southwest University Park for the fourth time in the 2020 regular season. In the last three meetings, Locomotive fell twice, however, claimed its first series win over United behind goals from Macca King, Dylan Mares, and a New Mexico own goal. While New Mexico’s momentum snapped in a 2-1 loss to Colorado Springs Switchbacks, Locomotive FC is full steam ahead on the Track to the Trophy. Aiming for back-to-back wins over their regional rival, Los Locos could clinch a top spot and earn the El Paso side the right to host the Western Conference Quarterfinals.
