Locomotive FC kicked off its entry into the USL eCup: FIFA20 Edition, seeing forward Alexy Bosetti lead the charge to a 3-2 loss in the opening rounds of the Division Qualifying Tournament. Representing Argentina, Bosetti found the back of the net through International stars, Sergio Aguero and Lautaro Martinez.
The contest got off to a fast-paced start as Hartford Atheltic, representing Scotland, immediately put pressure around goal, resulting in the Locomotive side picking up an early yellow card. Hartford would go on to find an early goal but Bosetti didn’t stay down long as he found the equalizer through Aguero in the 30th minute. The fast-paced first-half continued with pressure around the Locomotive Argentine goal, seeing Esteban Andrada make a huge save that deflected out to a Scotland forward who put the second shot away to close the first 45 minutes.
The second half saw the game close down as both teams fought for possession and opportunities towards goal. Each side made promising advances, as Bosetti was able to cut out the Athletic attack while seeing his own attempts towards goal getting shut down by the goalkeeper. Bosetti leveled the scoring again in the 80th minute using Lautaro Martinez and quick passing around the 18-yard-line to open space. The equalizer did not last, however, as Hartford Athletic took advantage of the chaos on the other end of the field to put away the game-winner in the 85th minute.
The loss sees Locomotive FC bow out of the Division Qualifying Tournament and will return to action in Week 2 of the USL eCup: FIFA20 Edition after being placed in one of three divisions.
