El Paso Locomotive FC claimed victory in its second match of the USL eCup: Rocket League Edition group stages with a decisive 2-0 series win over Rio Grande Valley FC. Game One saw GK Logan Ketterer mount the comeback to claim a 5-3 win controlling the match through Game Two for a 7-4 win.
Within 30 seconds of the opening whistle, Ketterer found himself a goal with some fancy car-work to bounce the ball off the arena wall to set himself up with the volley into frame. RGVFC equalized quickly following the same tactics before furthering their lead with two more goals, beating Ketterer out with near misses. The RGV lead wouldn’t last, as Ketterer mounted a comeback beginning with a strike from his own final third that floated into goal before making a massive save to start the counter to level out the scoring. Game One closed out with the Locomotive FC goalkeeper adding two more to his tally to claim the first game in the best-of-three-series.
After some technical difficulties provided Ketterer with an early goal, the Wisconsin native allowed RGV to level the scoring in a sign of good faith and sportsmanship. However, once the match got underway, Ketterer took control, advancing his lead onslaught of goals off of the crossbar, from distance, and by out dribbling to give him an 5-1 lead before RGV would begin to turn it around. While the Toros were able to pull some back on the scoreline, it wasn’t enough to catch up to the lead Locomotive FC built. Ahead of the final whistle Ketterer added two more goals to secure the 7-4 game win to close out the series.
El Paso Locomotive FC now turns to face USL Championship Eastern Conference foe, Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC in the final match of the group stages. The match is scheduled for Friday, April 10 with a kick off time of 4:00 p.m. MT and will be broadcast on ESPN3.
