EL PASO, TX – December 12, 2019 – El Paso Locomotive FC has signed their first new player for the 2020 season. Distel Zola will join the Locos from Tours FC in France where he spent the 2018-2019 season. Zola began his professional club career with Monaco in the highly esteemed Ligue 1 and has spent the majority of his career in the French football system.

The former French youth national team player has made appearances at the U16, U17, U18, and U19 level before switching his International allegiance to the Democratic Republic of Congo where he has appeared for the national team 21 times.

“To be able to add a player of Distel’s quality and experience to our group is something I am extremely excited about. His mentality as a top pro in the French leagues and his international experience with France and Congo make him an experienced high level professional. He will add leadership in the locker room and allow us to continue to raise our standards within the group. On the field, his physical presence, power and running ability combined with his quality on the ball will give us another dimension to our game. I am looking forward to Distel integrating with the group and getting on the field in 2020,” said Head Coach Mark Lowry

Zola will join nine returners from year one on the Locomotive roster.

EL PASO, TX – December 10, 2019 – El Paso Locomotive FC Captain Chiro N’toko is locked in for year two. The Belgian defender was an integral part of the Locomotive defensive and possessive model. N’toko appeared for the Locos 28 times and battled a midseason injury that made the defender miss a string of matches.

“Chiro led by example throughout the whole of 2019 and was a major influence on and off the field. His performances were a key piece in forming our strong defensive unit. Defending is an art form, and Chiro is a player who exemplifies that expression. His experience and quality was there for all to see and to be able to bring him back as our Captain is something that I am very proud of,” said Head Coach Mark Lowry.

While wearing the captain armband N’toko registered a team-high 108 clearances, blocked 14 shots, and led the team in passing accuracy (91.5 percent). N’toko’s high caliber of professionalism and defensive prowess was a key factor in El Paso conceding the second least amount of goals in the Western Conference.

EL PASO, TX – December 4, 2019 – El Paso Locomotive FC continue their culture of creativity, imagination, and excellence by providing fans and players with one of a kind kits for year two; a collaboration between BLK and El Paso Locomotive designer, Itzel Zambrano.  

“El Paso was very clear that they wanted their kit to represent their community, their core values and the spirit of the Locos. They did not want an off–the–shelf solution which is offered by most other brands. It has been a collaborative journey between BLK and Locomotive in bringing the new range to life. We are sure the players and fans will be very proud of the end result and to wear a quality kit that is exclusive to El Paso Locomotive,” stated Tyron Brant, BLK Chief Executive Officer.

The Dark Blue jersey brings a sense of modern style to a classic “chevron” pattern famously used by some of the biggest clubs in global soccer.  With the chevrons pointing downward and incorporating a number of various tones from the blue color palette, this jersey incorporates both West Texas Sky and Desert Dusk in a stylized hombre pattern famously used by clubs like Barcelona and Manchester United over the years.  A predominantly dark jersey, this will be a mainstay for the team as they begin their 2020 play.  With both a touch of modern flair and classical homage to soccer from around the globe, this jersey provides fans with an updated look to last year’s Desert Dusk kit.

The Light Blue and White Jersey, as with the dark jersey, takes a classic soccer aesthetic and adds in a contemporary touch.  The “sash” has been used by mega clubs such as River Plate, Inter Milan, LA Galaxy and both the US and Mexico National teams.  This take is a stylized sfumato, which blends light to dark and the design approach blends many small dots into one cohesive sash, tricking the eye to see one clear pattern from afar but upon closer inspection is made up of many small dots. This clean and bold look blends both classic and modern styles for an unmistakable look leading into 2020.

Transitioning from neon green and pink to a strong red and emboldened yellow, our keepers are taking on a ferocious and intimidating look for 2020.  With a monochromatic look returning for 2020, a more connected feel between the field players and goalkeepers was the objective. Instead of a separate design for their uniforms like we saw in 2019, their reflective kits take on the two styles of the field players for 2020.  Though subtle, the red jersey mimics the chevron patterns of the dark blue kit and the yellow jersey mimics the “sash” look of the white and light blue kits.  Representing one unified group on and off the field, 2020 promises to be a year to remember not only from a competition side but also a stylistic perspective.

EL PASO, TX – November 27, 2019 – El Paso Locomotive FC’s Sebastian Contreras, James Kiffe, Daniel Navarro and Joshua Castellanos are out of contract for the 2020 season.

“We want to extend our best wishes to Sebastian, James, Daniel and Joshua in their future soccer endeavors. All four players were instrumental in our inaugural season and as a club we look forward to seeing what they accomplish next,” said General Manager, Business Operations Andrew Forrest.

El Paso Locomotive FC currently have eight players returning for the 2020 season; Nick Ross, Mechack Jérôme, Richie Ryan, Logan Ketterer, Bryam Rebellon, Omar Salgado, Yuma, and Alexy Bosetti.

EL PASO, TX – November 26, 2019 – Scottish midfielder, Nick Ross will be returning for the 2020 season. The versatile midfielder, Ross, appeared for the Locos 32 times (out of 38 matches) in the 2019 campaign; recording two goals, two assists, and closed the season with a 90 percent passing accuracy.

“For me, Nick is one of the most underrated players in the league. He is incredibly intelligent; he has the running ability to cover more ground than anyone else during a game and is technically proficient with both feet. Nick’s intelligence allows us to experiment tactically and offers solutions to our build-up and possession play. He was a joy to work with in 2019, he is one of the most popular players on the roster and I am honored to have him back in a Locomotive jersey next season,” said Head Coach Mark Lowry.

The calm and cool 27-year-old midfielder completed 31 key passes in the inaugural season and showcased his class as a regular fixture in Lowry’s starting 11 thirty times in 2019.

The 2019 inaugural season was one for the books. Locomotive dug deep and proved that they were one of the best teams in the entire USL Championship. Locos bowed out of the playoffs in the Conference Final and left their mark on not only El Paso, but the league.
