El Paso Locomotive FC announced today that Midfielder Dylan Mares will not be returning for the 2023 season. Mares joined El Paso ahead of the 2020 season and made 73 appearances across three seasons. He scored 18 goals and had 16 assists while wearing the Locomotive jersey, accumulating 5,427 minutes of time on the pitch.
The dynamic midfielder made his presence known in the center role, with the ability to command the flow of the match and the transition from defense to attack. Mares scored the first Olimpico goal in franchise history against San Diego Loyal in August. In the 70th minute, Mares lined up to take the corner. At the whistle he sent an inwards curving ball towards the far post, and it bent in without any contact from another player in highlight reel fashion. He boasted an 87 percent passing accuracy in the 2022 season and was injured for the final two matches this year, making him unavailable for selection.
We would like to thank Dylan Mares for his time with the club and wish him the best in his future. More roster transactions will be announced as Locomotive prepares for their fifth season in the USL Championship.
